Day by Day

Five Days, Two Very Different Paces

City days are full; lake days are built for doing much less.

Days 1-3 · Vienna

The Ringstrasse, Schönbrunn Palace, a coffeehouse afternoon, and an evening of live music in a city built for it.

Days 4-5 · Hallstatt & the Salzkammergut

A scenic train into the mountains, a boat across Hallstättersee, and a slow last day before flying home from Salzburg or back through Vienna.

Questions About This Tour

Before You Apply

Is five days enough for Austria?
For Vienna and one alpine stop, yes. If you want to add Salzburg properly, mention it when you apply and we can extend the route.
How do we get to Hallstatt?
By train to Attnang-Puchheim, then a short connecting train and a scenic ferry across the lake. It's part of the experience, not just a transfer.
What's the best time of year?
Late spring through early autumn for the lake district. Vienna itself is worth visiting year-round, including a snowy December.
Do I need a visa?
No, for most nationalities. Austria is in the Schengen Area, so US, UK, and EU passport holders can stay visa-free for up to 90 days.
